Recent events have caused architects, risk managers and executive management to pay closer attention to providing high-integrity protection for vital records. In the past, designers or those intent on cutting costs have chosen four hour rated wall assemblies which were never intended for vault design. Things like walls of multiple layers of gypsum board or steel partitions, which do not carry certification for media vault protection and are not structural in a catastrophic fire, expose management to claims of negligence.
Due to the density and efficiency of our modern information media, new, relatively small vaults are able to store virtually billions of documents.
These vaults are designed to protect the fragile, sensitive media generated by new information technologies
